Hurricane Milton Update #4 and Yom Kippur

Dear Community,

It has been a long and difficult few days. Preparing for Milton, riding it out, and now we are dealing with the aftermath.

As cell service is coming back  and we are getting in touch and with more and more people, we are amazed to hear of so many beautiful gestures of neighbors and friends who are coming together to help each other.  Our Chabad WhatsApp Group has been very helpful with connecting people to each other so that they can help each other, you are welcome to join by clicking here.

We are also finding out that here in Manatee County, many people still do not have power.  At this point it looks like power was just restored to Chabad and access is cleared. We are open!

On Sunday night, October 13, at 5:30 pm we will have dinner available at The Chabad House for those who do not have power yet and all of us affected by the hurricane to take something off your plates as you are busy dealing with the Hurricane Milton aftermath.  Please spread the word. All are welcome as long as food supplies last.

If you know someone that needs a dinner and cannot come to Chabad, we will have take out boxes available so that you can pack up a meal and bring it to a friend as well.

We are holding Yom Kippur services tonight and tomorrow at The Grove.  On the holiest day of the year, let us come to together as a community to give thanks for surviving the storm and pray for strength.  We will have lots of food for the break-fast which will hopefully be helpful for those of you who do not have power in your homes. You can click here for all Yom Kippur related information.

We are so appreciative of the many people who have contributed so far to our relief efforts, if you would like to contribute, you can at chabadofbradenton.com/milton.

May each of you be sealed in the Book of Life for a life of peace, love, and joy and may we always feel the love and care of our people.

Rabbi Mendy & Chanie Bukiet

P.S. Please see the schedule for Yom Kippur services at The Grove by clicking here.

Hurricane Milton Update #3 and Yom Kippur

Dear Community,

We want to take a moment and check in to see how you are doing.  At this point it looks like there are many power outages, loss of cellular connectivity, and damages in our area but thankfully everyone who we have reached so far is ok. Please let us know how you are doing!

Please click here, if you know of anyone that needs a well check or feels unsafe in their homes.  We have a team of volunteers with Hatzalah and Chavivim ready to check on anyone that’s needed.

At this point Chabad does not have power, but access is cleared and if you need to talk, check in, or just come and get a hug, or some water, we are here.

We are thrilled to let you know that the Grove will be open for Yom Kippur and the Fairfield Marriott has power as well so Yom Kippur services are going forward as planned.  On the holiest day of the year, let us come to together as a community to give thanks for surviving the storm and pray for strength.  We will have lots of food for the break-fast which will hopefully be helpful for those of you who do not have power in your homes. You can click here for all Yom Kippur related information.

With thanks to HaShem that the storm has passed and blessings for strength in the upcoming days.
With heartfelt prayers for a Shana Tova and good year for all,

Rabbi Mendy & Chanie Bukiet

Hurricane Milton - Second Update

Dear Community,

We want to take a moment to reach out and offer a prayer for everyone’s safety and well-being—and to remind you to reach out if you need anything at all.  We are here to help in any way we can.

It’s especially important now to think of those who might feel isolated or vulnerable, particularly the elderly.  A simple phone call to check in and let them know they are not alone can make all the difference.

To help us stay connected and understand your situation, you can fill out this short form, letting us know if you’re in the area or have evacuated, and providing your emergency contacts. If you have any difficulties with the form, feel free to reply to this email.

Chabad of Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch is mobilizing staff and volunteers, as we have done in previous storms, to assist as many people as possible, especially those most in need.  If you are available to volunteer to assist or make well check calls to seniors and the homebound after the storm, please let us know.

Additionally, Hatzolah (a Jewish volunteer emergency medical service) is positioned in the Tampa Bay area now and able to help if needed.  Please see the information posted below.

Many have asked about our Yom Kippur services.  Our goal and hope is to hold Yom Kippur services at The Grove as planned.  We will assess the situation after the storm passes and keep everyone posted as soon as we can.

May everyone in Florida and in the storm’s path remain safe and protected.

With heartfelt prayers for a Shana Tova and good year for all,

Rabbi Mendy & Chanie Bukiet
